Held in the serene village of Weybourne on the North Norfolk coast, this carefully curated retreat is designed for dancers who would like to deepen their understanding of movement, musicality, and performance.
You'll enjoy daily ballet training, workshops, and supportive coaching designed to bridge the gap between beginner and improver level. This weekend will help you build confidence, refine your technique, and discover new joy in your dancing.
While there will undoubtedly be plenty of laughter and enjoyment along the way, this weekend also offers a rare opportunity to learn from someone working at the very heart of the ballet world.
Meet your teachers
Sian Murphy
We are absolutely delighted to welcome Sian Murphy to North Norfolk for this very special Beginner Plus retreat.
Sian trained at The Royal Ballet School before enjoying an outstanding career with The Royal Ballet, where she rose through the ranks to become First Artist. Following her performing career, she became Assistant Ballet Mistress and now works as one of The Royal Ballet's Repetiteurs, coaching and rehearsing some of the world's finest dancers and productions.
In 2024, Sian founded The Ballet House, driven by her passion for making world-class ballet training accessible to dancers from all backgrounds.
To have someone of Sian's calibre sharing her knowledge with our Beginner Plus dancers is a genuine privilege. Her extensive experience, deep understanding of classical ballet, and warm, encouraging teaching style create the perfect environment for adult dancers to learn, grow, and gain confidence.
Throughout the weekend, Sian will guide dancers through the foundations that transform steps into dance - helping participants understand not only how movements are performed, but why they work. Her approach combines technical precision with artistry, helping dancers build skills they can continue developing long after the retreat has finished.
hannah collier
We’ll also be joined by Hannah Collier, an amazing certified Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) instructor, ballet teacher, and chartered physiotherapist. Hannah works both within the NHS and privately, specialising in dancer health, rehabilitation, and strength training, alongside running her own adult ballet fitness classes.
Currently completing her APPI Pilates training, Hannah is passionate about helping dancers build strength, stability, and confidence through informed, supportive movement practice. During the retreat, she will lead energising morning PBT sessions as well as a restorative stretch and relaxation class designed to support recovery and wellbeing throughout the weekend.
RETREAT LEVEL
Improver Level
Experience: 1+ years of ballet
This retreat is designed to support dancers in building confidence while developing their artistry and technique.
Ideal for dancers looking for high-quality training in a relaxed, elegant, and highly personal environment.
The emphasis throughout the weekend will be on understanding how and why movements work, giving dancers practical tools to continue improving long after the weekend has finished, all within a friendly and supportive environment.
What We'll Explore During the Weekend
The focus of the retreat is on bridging the gap between beginner and improver level, helping dancers understand how individual movements connect together to create beautiful, expressive dancing.
Port de Bras - Creating beautiful, expressive arm lines while coordinating the head, shoulders, and upper body.
Épaulement - Understanding how the subtle use of the shoulders and head brings elegance and artistry to movement.
Linking Steps - Learning how to transition smoothly from one movement to the next to create flow and continuity.
Enchaînements - Combining steps into short sequences to improve memory, coordination, and confidence.
Weight Transfer & Balance - Developing stability, control, and confidence when moving from one leg to the other.
Musicality - Understanding rhythm, phrasing, and how to dance with the music rather than simply counting steps.
Turns & Spotting - Introducing the foundations of secure, coordinated turns with correct preparation and finish.
Posture & Alignment - Improving placement to support stronger technique and reduce unnecessary tension.
Use of the Feet & Articulation - Developing strength through the feet and ankles for cleaner, more expressive movement.
Performance Quality - Bringing everything together so movements are danced with confidence, intention, and joy.
