Discover a deeper understanding of how you move
Ballet is about so much more than learning steps. It’s about understanding how our bodies move, finding freedom within technique and discovering how even the smallest adjustments can transform our dancing.
Join Barry Drummond for three days dedicated to exploring the essence of ballet - movement, technique, mobility, strength and musicality.
This retreat offers adult dancers the opportunity to step away from the pressure of learning complicated choreography and instead concentrate on the foundations that make our dancing stronger, more fluid and expressive.
movement and musicality
Throughout the retreat, Barry will guide us through classical ballet classes alongside his own mobility and movement training, helping us explore how the body works and how we can move more efficiently.
We’ll focus on alignment, placement, coordination, strength and the relationship between movement and musicality. There will be time to ask questions, explore individual challenges and develop a greater awareness of our own dancing.
Meet your teacher
Barry drummond
Barry trained at the Royal Ballet Upper School before enjoying a ten-year career with English National Ballet. During his time with the company, he performed works by renowned choreographers including Akram Khan, Pina Bausch and John Neumeier, alongside principal and soloist roles in ballets by Kenneth MacMillan, William Forsythe and Christopher Wheeldon.
He later moved into Musical Theatre, appearing in West End productions including My Fair Lady, the international tour of Singin' in the Rain and the world tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
Alongside his performing career, Barry works as an exercise rehabilitator and movement therapist. Trained in Clinical Pilates, Functional Range Conditioning, Strength and Conditioning, and Yoga, he brings a unique understanding of movement, strength and dancer wellbeing to every class.
Who is this retreat for?
Adult ballet dancers who would like to deepen their understanding of technique and movement, improve their body awareness and develop greater confidence in their dancing. The focus is on personal development rather than complicated choreography, making this a particularly rewarding experience for dancers who enjoy exploring the finer details of ballet.
